In-Person Body-Based Intensives for Individuals and Small Groups What Are the Intensives? Intensive are 4-hr in-person sessions at a retreat location in Germantown. For new clients, we recommend at least 1 full hour online preparation session 1-6 weeks before the intensive. At least one online integration session is recommended; more, if desired. Why Intensives? The purpose of an intensive is a rapid and profound transformation of a specific area of your life. Some examples might be: improving your body image, becoming more focused at work, creating a positive, easy and enjoyable transition to retirement, reclaiming inspiration and enjoyment in your creative life, or being more present and emotionally available to your loved ones. My clients often comment that what they were able to accomplish in one intensive session would have taken them 6 months to a year of traditional therapy sessions. How Do We Prepare for an Intensive? For optimal results, we will set an intention 1-6 weeks before the intensive. An intention is usually a word or a phrase, such as: “relaxed when looking in the mirror”, or “calm clarity when talking to my teen”, or simply “enjoyment” or “ease”. You can think, talk or journal about your intention, to bring it to a forefront of your awareness. If you are visual, finding or creating an image that represents your intention can be a powerful tool. If you like ritual, you can bring some special objects, such as candles, rocks, images of spiritual figures, photos of family members, or an object that represents what you are creating. If there’s a scent or a soundtrack that might help to embody, remember and reinforce your intention, you can use them during preparation or bring them with you on the day of the intensive. What Do We Do During an Intensive? During the initial session, we will talk about your intentions and test some of the techniques that I use, to make sure you respond. We are going to design the intensive together and do only what's most impactful and enjoyable for you. Most people do some combination of talking, guided meditative processes, EFT/tapping, and movement. Gentle touch/energy work, essential oils and/or art therapy techniques can also be added. What Is Included and How Much Does It Cost? An intensive for one person includes 1 hour of online or phone preparation, and 4 hours of in-person work on the day of the intensive. A full day (9am to 9pm) in a beautiful retreat setting in Germantown, Maryland is included. The cost is $1100, or $1200 if you would like to stay overnight. If two or more people are coming, the cost will adjust depending on the kind of work that is desired. Additional (phone or zoom) preparation and integration sessions are $180 for 55 minutes. What About Meals? You bring your own meals - there is a full kitchen, with a full fridge, a stove and a microwave. If you would like to work on food-related issues, I can bring lunch and we can eat together and work on whatever might come up for you. If we are not working on anything food related, we typically start after lunch and finish before dinner. What Else Do I Need to Know? I recommend that you create some mental and emotional space before and after your intensive, getting a decent amount of rest, and being well nourished and hydrated. How Do I Schedule an Intensive? When you first contact me, please mention that you would like to schedule a preparation session for an intensive.
